Franziska Riegamer is a German painter living and working in Denmark. After studying at an art academy in Hamburg, she developed an independent painting practice centred on the exploration of the picture surface and the process of painting itself.

Working predominantly in oil, Riegamer creates expressive, colour-intensive paintings that combine gestural marks with layered and partially fragmented pictorial spaces. Her work moves between abstraction and figuration, density and dissolution, control and surrender. Memory, perception and lived experience enter an intuitive process without becoming fixed into a single narrative.

At the heart of her practice is a continuous struggle with the image: layers are built up, reworked, erased and brought back to the surface. Traces of this process remain visible, creating a tension between vulnerability and resistance, stillness and movement.

Riegamer approaches painting as an open process in which meaning is never entirely predetermined, but continues to unfold in the encounter between the work and the viewer.
